An overnight journey to Springfield, Illinois that explores Abraham Lincoln’s life and legacy through the lens of alcohol.  Honestly.

We’re heading to the heart of the Land of Lincoln to talk Abe and alcohol.  Join us as we visit historic Springfield to learn about his legacy – all through the lens of booze.  For real.

Our journey begins in downtown Springfield at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.  Here, James Cornelius, Lincoln Curator at ALPLM and one of the world’s leading Lincoln scholars, welcomes us and provides an intro and overview of the museum.  From there, explore the exhibitions on your own before we head off to Oak Ridge Cemetery to get a private guided experience at the Lincoln Tomb.

Next is an enchanting and private evening that has been especially curated for you.  Rolling Meadows Brewery is a unique brewery owned by two moms and their sons.  The farm has strong and special ties to Lincoln as it is the very site where Lincoln first stepped foot in the Springfield area.  Whoa.  Here we will enjoy an array of brews, take in a tour of the farm and facility, and have a full on party. It’s down home hospitality that would have made Abraham Lincoln proud.

Local chefs will serve up a wonderful farm to table dinner alongside delicious Rolling Meadows brews.  James Cornelius joins us once again, but this time he’s chatting all about the connections between Abraham Lincoln and alcohol.  After a bit of learning (and drinking), we’ll enjoy the beautiful summer night with a bonfire under the stars.  To close out the evening, we visit the famous Price Street Pub, a local dive bar lovingly known as The Penny Bar, for the thousands of pennies that cover the bar.

Get some ZZZZs because the next day we are treated to a private guided experience of the Lincoln Home and neighborhood. The Lincolns purchased their house in 1844 and lived here until their departure to the White House in 1861.  After our special tour and talk, we gather at Obed & Isaac’s Microbrewery, once a private home owned by good friends of the Lincolns.  Today, it’s a local favorite brewery and it’s here where we’ll wrap up our experience and toast our Lincoln-rrific weekend.

Getting to and from Springfield:

Overnight buses are expensive, so we’re not doing it since we want to make this fun and affordable!  Plus, we all may not be coming from the same place.  We also want YOU to have freedom with your weekend and come and go when you wish.  Amtrak has a Chicago-Springfield round-trip journey available for $51.  The 9:25AM train on July 22 and the 4:56PM train on July 23 would be good options.  Or maybe you want to road trip and get your kicks on Route 66?  It’s an easy 3.5 hour drive from Chicago to Springfield.

We have a special group rate of $115/night at the President Abraham Lincoln Springfield Double Tree Hotel (naturally). Rooms must be reserved by July 1.  Book your room here.
