Milwaukee, Wisconsin: The “good land.” Good for so many reasons, and thankfully, many of those reasons are rooted in beer.  It’s true, Milwaukee has much to teach us about beer history, but more importantly, the yesteryears of beer have much to teach us about our present.

Join us for an overnight excursion on Milwaukee Day (414 on 4/14) that includes a historic walking tour, a special and custom tour of the Miller Brewing Company (with a focus on Miller High Life), a rare opportunity to dine in the original Miller caves, a unique experience with craft beer at Pabst Brewing, and time savor Milwaukee’s craft beer scene.  There will be lots of beer, and history, of course.

Morning:  Check in to the Brewhouse Inn & Suites.  Renovated in 2013, one of Milwaukee’s best boutique hotels was also the home of the original Pabst Brewery.  Here you’ll have a chance to sleep amongst brewing equipment and history – the perfect base for our adventure.  We have a very special group rate of $149/night (plus taxes) for studio Queen suites.  You must book by March 30 and very limited rooms are available so please book now to guarantee a stay at our partner hotel. Book online and use code TAP0414 or call 414-810-3350 and let them know you are with the History On Tap group.

1PM: We meet at The Newsroom, a historic bar in Milwaukee’s downtown area.  Here we meet our local guide, Wendy Bright, who will take us on a one hour walking along the scenic Riverwalk. From Native American beginnings to serious German culture that built the breweries, to the Art Museum’s famous Calatrava addition, we will talk Milwaukee’s art, architecture, history, and its distinctive character.

2:30PM: We conclude our journey in the historic Third Ward at Broken Bat Brewery, one of Milwaukee’s newest craft breweries.  We’ll grab a pint of beer and learn about their approach to beer while enjoying our surroundings.

3:30PM: Our bus takes us across to to the Miller Brewing Company. Here we’ll embark on a special, in depth tour of the brewery – created just for us – led by Archivist Daniel Scholzen and Lisa Zimmer, Beer Cultural and Community Manager.  We’ll get deep into history and have a special focus on a brand we all love: Miller High Life.  From there we venture down into the original Miller caves and have a unique opportunity to dine in history.

7PM: We say goodbye to the High Life and head back to the Brewhouse Inn which is also home of the Pabst Brewing grounds.  We wrap up our evening by visiting the newly christened Pabst Taproom where the past meets the present.  Here we’ll have a chance to hear a bit about the brewery’s history and learn about their approach to craft beer.  After your flight, feel free to stick around or round out your night at any other watering hole.

Our last day in Milwaukee offers another chance to soak in more local flavor.

10:30AM: Join us at historic Sobelman’s, an iconic Milwaukee bar and a locale that is world famous for their Bloody Mary.  While beer made Milwaukee famous, its the bloody mary culture that spices things up in this town. We’ll have a special group reservation, but drinks and food are on you. Should you wish to have the morning to yourself to explore other parts of Milwaukee or just sleep off that hangover, that’s okay too!

12:30PM: We’ll take a walk down the street to visit Third Space Brewing.  Founded in 2016, Third Space has quickly become a staple in Milwaukee’s craft beer scene.  We’ll learn about the brewery whilst throwing back a pint in the warm, industrial environs.  Here we’ll raise a final glass to our historic adventure in Milwaukee. If you’re taking the train back to Chicago, the main Amtrak station is just a 10 minute walk away.
